Gastrointestinal health is central to our overall health and wellbeing, with a role that extends beyond digestion and absorption of nutrients. A healthy GI development and function impacts immune function and even mood and mental well being.

DR JONATHAN BOLON

Jonathan Bolon was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. He graduated medical school from the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS). His internship and community service training was performed at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital. Following this he completed his internal medical registrar training on the Johannesburg Wits Circuit ("Bara", Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, Helen Joseph Hospital) and qualified as a Specialist Physician through the College of Medicine of South Africa (FCP(SA)).

He was drawn to the field of Gastroenterology as it combines both the cognitive and the procedural aspects of medicine. Fellowship /sub-specialist training was performed and completed with registration as a sub-specialist in Medical Gastroenterology through the College of Medicine - Certificate Gastroenterology (Phys(SA)).

Further training was afforded through an opportunity to work as a Senior Clinical Fellow, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, UK. Dr Bolon has been in full-time practice at Morningside Mediclinic, Johannesburg since late 2019.
